Santa Fe, New Mexico
Every year on Labor Day weekend, Santa Fe hosts an event that is Epic! The burning of Zozobra! In Spanish, “zozobra” means anxiety/worry/gloom. They build the giant effigy, fill it with worries and anxieties submitted by fans, and burn him down. The crowd chants burn him. There’s lights, fog, a drone show, fireworks, and a booming, groaning voice. It’s crazy! It was meaningful for me because this year has been full of change. We moved from Texas to New Mexico. The last couple of years we’ve struggled to find our places in the world, so when a new opportunity popped up we took a leap of faith and said, “yes”. I submitted my own gloom in hopes of turning a new page. Moving to a new place is always a good way to reinvent yourself. Here’s to a wonderful new life in New Mexico!
